What is the Dementia Symposium About?
The Dementia Symposium is a one-day event to help our community support families living with dementia. It’s a time for caregivers to explore how dementia alters the journey of life for those living with it and the people loving them through it and learn about Alzheimer’s disease and local resources available to them.
Who should attend the symposium?
The symposium focuses on caregivers, those who provide services to families and anyone interested in learning more about Alzheimer’s and dementia. Family members, health care providers and advocates are also encouraged to attend.
When and where is the symposium held?
This year’s event is on May 5, 2026. Doors open at 9:00 am for registration, coffee and time to visit with local resource providers. It is held at The Church at Liberty Square, 2001 Liberty Square Drive, Cartersville, Ga. 30120. You can visit www.dacc.life for details about this year’s speakers and topic presentations.
Is the symposium open to the public?
Yes, the symposium usually welcomes both professionals and members of the public who are interested in dementia and research. However, registration is required.
Who is responsible for the symposium?
The symposium is presented by the Dementia and Caregiver Coalition to further our mission of raising awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and other related dementia; to challenge the misconceptions surrounding the disease; and to empower, support and strengthen individuals and families caring for their loved one living with dementia or other long-term disease.
Is there a fee to attend?
This is a free event, but space is limited, so register early to reserve your space.
What topics will be covered?
Topic summaries and speaker information are listed on the website: www.dacc.life. We are honored to have Sheila Welch as our Keynote speaker, and she will present additional sessions.
Will there be hands-on or interactive components?
The Area Agency on Aging will be presenting the Virtual Dementia Tour, which allows you to experience some of the challenges of living with Alzheimer's or dementia in real life circumstances. Space is limited and you must register for the Tour.
Is the symposium venue accessible?
The Church at Liberty Square is accessible for those with mobility, issues.
Will lunch or refreshments be provided?
The symposium will provide a box lunch for each attendee. If you have food allergies, please bring your own meal. Water will be provided throughout the day, and coffee will be offered from 9:00 to 9:45.
Is Childcare available?
Unfortunately, we are unable to provide childcare.
Can my loved one with dementia attend?
Everyone is welcome to attend. Please consider the topic sensitivity and symposium atmosphere with multiple room changes when deciding if your loved one will tolerate and enjoy the day.
